Marie is a European Patent Attorney, a Chartered Patent Attorney (UK), an Irish Patent Attorney and a Community Design and Trade Mark Attorney and has over 25 years’ experience in private practice.

Marie graduated from University of Limerick with BSc (Hons) with a specialisation in Industrial Chemistry. Marie went on to work in the research dept of a multinational pharma company in the UK where her experience placed her at the fulcrum of exploratory research in polymer synthetic routes. It was here that Marie came into contact with the in-house patent dept that led her to realise that her love of languages could be intertwined with her passion for science and technology to build a career as a patent attorney.

Marie joined the patent profession in 1989 and qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. Marie studied with the Open University and achieved a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on strategic management and management of innovation. Marie has international clients from the United States, China as well as Irish and UK entrepreneurs, SME’s and other organisations. Marie’s work involves IP strategy for patent portfolios including preparation and prosecution of patent applications primarily at the EPO and UKIPO for local clients as well as for multinational clients.

Marie  joined Hanna Moore + Curley in 2014 and Marie became Chief Representative of Hanna Moore and Curley’s China office in 2018 and leads the firm’s China team.

Marie practices in technologies across a number of sectors in particular, in the chemistry and Life Sciences sector, including healthcare & pharmaceuticals, agritech, medtech and food technology on issues including drafting & prosecution of patent applications, supplementary protection certificates (SPC’s), worldwide IP portfolio management/strategy, due diligence & opinion work. During her career, Marie has been directly responsible for the patent portfolios of several major multinational companies so that together with her business strategy background and in-depth IP knowledge, Marie is well placed to work with clients to create and implement IP strategies that are aligned with organisational goals.

Over her 25 years as a patent Attorney, Marie has developed excellent communication skills in liaising with innovators to harvest inventions and analyse technical aspects of inventions and drafting and analysing patent specifications; and in due diligence and Freedom to Operate ( FTO) Opinions.

Marie is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) (UK) and a member of the Irish Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (APTMA). Marie is highly regarded among her clients and is regularly referred by clients for her technical and legal insights and clear communication skills.
